Document templates and the approval flow

Settings → Templates holds your firm's letter templates: retainers, HIPAA authorizations, records request cover letters, non-engagement letters and more.

The editor

Edit visually — formatting, tables and merge fields — or switch to raw HTML when you need exact control. Both modes edit the same document, and a preview with sample data shows what recipients will see.

Merge fields

Merge fields like client name, case number and incident date fill automatically when the template is used. Each template kind only offers the fields that are safe for it — a non-engagement letter, for example, can never merge a computed deadline date.

Approval freezes wording

A template must be approved for use before anything can send it. Approving freezes the wording — edits create a new version that needs its own approval. The approval dialog warns you if any "[Firm to supply…]" placeholders remain, so unfinished language can't go to a client.
