Case costs

The Costs page is the firm's cost ledger: filing fees, service fees, expert fees, records charges — every dollar advanced on a case.

Adding a cost

Add costs from the case or the Costs page with the amount, date, payee and category. Amounts are stored exactly (integer cents) so ledgers and settlement statements always reconcile to the penny.

Records fees

When a records request carries a provider fee, paying it creates the cost entry automatically — you never enter it twice.

Where costs flow

Costs feed the settlement distribution statement automatically. Because costs can only change through Clerkly's controlled actions (with the right permission), the statement a client signs always matches the ledger.
